Quality public schools depend on quality public engagement and on sustained public involvement. Which is why your leadership, commitment, and effort are so important in realizing the goals of No Child Left Behind.

This serves as your pledge to create a world in which all students have access to high-quality teaching, aligned curriculum and assessments, and the range of supports students need to succeed.

Many school districts, especially those with large numbers of low-income and minority children in both rural and urban communities, have a long way to go to realize that vision. Isolated school-reform efforts have met with some success; none, however, have achieved the ultimate goal of sustained achievement for all public school children.

Help local education fundsﾗindependent community-based advocacy organizations working to engage local citizens in public education reform in urban and rural communities around the country. They all believe that closing the achievement gap can be accomplished only by closing the engagement gap between communities where schools benefit from high levels of citizen involvement and those where schools struggle in isolation for resources and support.
